Morning Walk & Health
Healthy Founders Build Stronger Companies
Founder health is the most commonly neglected variable in Surat IT. Morning Walk & Health creates structured routines — daily walks, weekly yoga, and monthly wellness workshops — that make physical and mental health a non-negotiable part of the SIC culture.
Founding and running an IT company is not a physically demanding job in the conventional sense, but it is one of the most metabolically stressful. Chronic sitting, erratic meal timing, decision fatigue that disrupts sleep, and the cognitive load of managing teams and clients simultaneously creates a health deterioration pattern that is well-documented in founder populations but rarely acknowledged openly. Surat's IT founders are not exempt — the combination of cultural norms around long working hours and limited social permission to prioritize personal health creates a quiet health crisis among the community's most important people.
The 6 AM morning walk group was the initiative's starting point — low barrier, zero equipment, and accessible to any fitness level. It was designed specifically to be difficult to refuse: 45 minutes, near your neighborhood, before the workday starts. What the founders who joined discovered was that the walks became something else entirely: the most useful informal conversation forum in the community. Problems that had been sitting in someone's head for weeks got solved during a 3-kilometer walk with three other founders who had seen the same problem from a different angle.
Weekly yoga sessions, led by a certified instructor with experience working with professionals, focus on desk-worker-specific issues: cervical tension, lower back compression, and breathing patterns disrupted by sustained screen time. Sessions run at 7 AM on Saturdays and are deliberately kept to 60 minutes to fit inside the schedule of founders with family commitments. The instructor has adapted the curriculum based on feedback from participants, making it relevant to people who have never practiced yoga and have limited flexibility — the entry barrier is deliberately low.
Wellness workshops cover topics that most founders would never prioritize if left to individual motivation: sleep architecture and its impact on decision quality, stress physiology and evidence-based intervention techniques, nutrition for cognitive performance, and the warning signs of burnout specific to entrepreneurial contexts. These sessions are not motivational talks — they are practitioner presentations with actionable protocols. Members who have applied the sleep and stress protocols consistently report improvements in decision-making clarity and emotional resilience within 6–8 weeks, which translates directly into better business outcomes.
Goals
What this initiative aims to achieve
How It Works
Your path to participating
Daily 6 AM Morning Walks
Meet at designated parks — VNSGU campus, Sarthana Nature Park, and Tapi riverside — for 45-minute group walks. Casual conversations, zero agenda. The most productive networking of the week.
Sunday Yoga Sessions
Professional instructor-led yoga every Sunday at 7 AM. 90-minute sessions covering asanas, pranayama, and brief meditation. Suitable for beginners — no prior yoga experience needed.
Monthly Health Workshops
Doctors, nutritionists, and mental health professionals from Surat lead monthly sessions on practical health topics: managing founder stress, sleep optimization, nutrition for high-performance, and preventive health screenings.
Wellness Challenges
30-day community challenges: 10,000 steps daily, 30 days of no sugar, 21-day meditation streaks. Tracked via shared apps. Community accountability turns hard habits into consistent ones.
Action Checklist
Six steps to get maximum value
Join the morning walk WhatsApp group and attend for 4 consecutive Wednesdays
The habit forms after 4 weeks of consistency — make it non-negotiable for one month and assess the impact on your mental clarity
Attend the Saturday yoga session for one trial month
No prior yoga experience required — wear comfortable clothes and arrive 5 minutes early for the instructor's brief orientation for new participants
Complete the founder health self-assessment form
The SIC health committee uses this to identify which wellness topics members most need — your honest answers improve programming for everyone
Get a basic health checkup and share the habit (not the results) with the group
Normalizing routine health checks within a peer group significantly increases the behavior — the group accountability is the point, not the data
Implement one protocol from the sleep workshop within 7 days
The two highest-impact protocols are consistent wake time and screen-off 45 minutes before bed — start with one and measure its effect on your morning alertness
Bring a co-founder or senior leader from your company to at least one session
Health culture in companies is set by leaders — if you are prioritizing your health, your team needs to see that modeled
Key Benefits
What you gain from participating
"I had back pain every day for two years and I thought it was just "what happens when you sit at a desk." Eight weeks of Saturday yoga and one visit to a physiotherapist the wellness workshop connected me with later — pain gone. I also started the morning walks thinking it was networking with an exercise excuse. It is both, and the 6 AM conversations have been more valuable for my business than most evening networking events I have attended."
